THIS YEAR'S RACE WILL BE HELD ON: SATURDAY OCTOBER 12, 2013
Who We Are
Each year thousands of women are diagnosed with breast cancer and each year we learn that half of the cases could have been prevented. Our names are Angela Keck and Michele McManus and we were raised here in Enfield, CT and are graduates of Enrico Fermi High School. Other than having that in common, within the last few years both of our lives were affected by family members being diagnosed with breast cancer. It is a very helpless feeling being told your role model has been diagnosed with cancer and fighting a disease they cannot control. Every woman with breast cancer deserves the best care in order to increase their chance in becoming a survivor. This is why we want to host a day of breast cancer awareness in order to fundraise money to help increase medical research, and one day find a cure for this disease.
This event will be held to raise money for breast cancer research and prevention programs. October is the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we hope this day kicks off a month of education and strength for all. All proceeds will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. We chose this foundation because after researching potential charity facilities, we came to the conclusion that this foundation does an outstanding job at utilizing the money given. Currently, 91 cents of every dollar spent by BCRF is directed towards breast cancer research and awareness programs.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation - It's Time for Research
"The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is an independent 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increasing public awareness about good breast health. At this time there are about 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer.
Since its inception, the Foundation has raised more than $380 million to support clinical and translational research at medical institutions across the globe conducting the most advanced and promising breast cancer research that will help lead to prevention and a cure in our lifetime. BCRF support for promising yet untried ideas is a crucial component of this research. New grants are announced in October each year. In October 2012, BCRF will announce new grants of $40 million to 197 scientists from top universities and academic medical centers across the globe. You can be confident that the maximum amount of your donation will support lifesaving research. BCRF remains one of the most fiscally responsible charities in the country. For the tenth time since 2002, it has earned 4 stars from Charity Navigator. Additionally, BCRF is the only cancer organization rated an "A"+ by CharityWatch. The Foundation welcomes and depends on contributions from all those concerned with women's health. Working together, we know we can find a cure in our lifetime."
